About Competency Certificates
A Competent Person, as defined by the ASIB for the purposes of listing, is an individual who has sat and passed the ASIB Examination of Competency and holds a numbered Certificate of Competency.
A Competent Person is required to maintain their certificate through calculation submissions and by completing refresher assessments as required.
Competency certificates are issued to individuals in one of two designations: as an individual certificate, or as a company-linked certificate. This distinction is reflected in the certificate number in the form of an I or a C — for example, 2008C-001.
Competency certificates issued under a company designation are issued in the context of that employment relationship. The employing company retains the right to withdraw the company certificate designation upon termination of employment. A person whose company certificate designation has been withdrawn may apply to sit the examination again after a period of six months.
A Certificate of Competency may be invalidated for reasons including, but not limited to:
- Gross negligence or incompetence
- Consistently incorrect calculations in submissions
- Failure to maintain the required level of knowledge
